TCI of NY has presented its 7th annual TCI of NY Environmental and Agriculture Scholarship to Ichabod Crane High School graduate and aspiring forester Olivia Walkinshaw of Kinderhook, NY.
“I was so surprised when I found out,” Olivia said. “This is a great head start for college.”
TCI of NY President Brian Hemlock and Senior Executive Account Manager Lisa Leone-Beers presented Olivia with a check for $1,000. Olivia plans to attend Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY, and then complete her studies in biology at Paul Smith’s College, near Saranac Lake, NY. She said her grandfather, the late Tom Elliott, owned a tree service and was her inspiration to pursue a career in forestry.
“We are thrilled to support young men and women whose interests are in environmental science, agriculture and the outdoors,” Hemlock said. “It’s important for businesses like ours to encourage young people with a passion for resource conservation and sustainability because they are our future innovators and solution providers.”
