TCI of NY marks seven years in Coeymans In Memory of Zoltan “Sol” Lefkovits

Investing, expanding, and creating good paying jobs

September 23, 2021, Coeymans, NY – TCI's first plant in Coeymans opened on September 14, 2014, and the company hasn’t looked back since.  “When we came to Coeymans, we only had 10 employees. Now we have 40 and as far as we are concerned, this is only the beginning,” said Brian Hemlock, President.

Last August TCI opened their new expansion facility a 35,000 square foot, state of the art addition adding new capability to the existing production line.   The new production line gives TCI the ability to expand their services to their customers, which include the largest investor owned publicly traded utility companies, municipal utilities and private business.   Now Jobs that used to go out of state will be created in Coeymans New York.

“We are proud to be in Coeymans investing and creating new jobs,” said Mr. Hemlock.

Through an innovative and environmentally focused approach, more than 99 percent of the material processed today is salvaged for beneficial re-use rather than landfilled.  TCI goes to the utilities with specialized trailers to pick up transformers and then off loads them at the plant where they go onto highly modernized production lines to separate the materials.

“The transformers are systematically dismantled,” says John Barr, Operations Manager.  “The process requires highly skilled workers who are trained and educated.  There needs to be strict attention to detail.”

The company employs a reverse manufacturing process that prepares materials that are refined according to stringent specifications and prepares them to be mill ready.  Materials need to be at the same high standards as other manufacturing suppliers to the mills.

“We believe people are our most important asset.  We are a family-owned business committed to our employees and our community.  We provide a positive work environment, good jobs with benefits, and the opportunity for people to advance,” said Mr. Hemlock.

“TCI provides jobs in the community which promotes growth and stability for all of those who live in the area,” said Joy Iafallo, Chairwoman of the RCS Community Business Association.

In addition to the employment opportunities, TCI pays approximately $75,000 per year in local taxes, and spends more than $250,000 annually with local businesses, from grocery stores and diners to gas stations and hardware stores.

TCI strongly believes in an obligation to neighbors and to the larger community.  The company is committed to operating the business in a manner that is safe and unobtrusive to neighbors, protective of the environment and beneficial to the regional economy through employment, tax payments and spending with other local businesses.

TCI of NY is one of eight members of the G&S Family of Companies, employs 600 employees across America, all devoted to the environmentally safe processing, recycling and repair of transformers and other oil-filled electrical equipment, and the safe processing and re-use of mineral oils.

In Memory of
Zoltan "Sol" Lefkovits
Cofounder, TCI of NY
1933 - 2021

It's with a heavy heart and great sadness that TCI announces the passing of our beloved co-founder, Zoltan "Sol" Lefkovits.  He, along with Gaby Newmark, together formed G&S Technologies in 1963.  Today G&S has grown to over 175 employees directly, and more than 600 employees across eight companies that comprise the G&S family of companies including TCI of NY.

Sol was deeply loved by his family and friends.  He led by example through his exceptional work ethic, commitment to his customers, strong financial practices, and striving to always do the right thing.  He was truly one of a kind.

It is a true American success story.  Started by two Hungarian brothers-in-law who came to America in 1956.  They both along with their wives survived the Holocaust.  Over the next 60 years, Gaby and Sol went on to build a successful, now in its third-generation business that has benefitted many lives and protects the environment.
